I talked with Axis as there is no information on the weight of their Vortex series online, and no one carries them in stock or has a clue about them..
They said they weigh 6.5 pounds shipped, so, 6 pounds each..aprox
Those Dixons 610's are listed at 3.5 pounds..
I found some PDP 700 series boom stands that are around 5 pounds maybe less.. They weigh less than my Taye single braced, and they are around 6ish..
I'm surprised that axis is charging so much, when they aren't the lightest out there.. Better materials,.. But if you aren't an idiot with your gear, The value isn't there at all. I could buy 4 Dixons or PdP's for the same as 1 vortex.. Anybody use pdp or Dixon hardware? are the threads any good?
What's the lightest hardware out there?

Best to buy Axis used and wait it out for an Ebay deal. The Vortex hi-hat weighs 6.4 on my digital bath scale (folded up). I think I paid 125. The snare and cymbal stands are too light to worry about putting on a scale. I bought them all used and as much for the finish as the weight. After lugging 80s Yamaha HW around these are nothing.

I agree, Axis makes the lightest stuff I have ever picked up, and extremely durable. But as with most things that are made well, you will pay a good $.

Hey Guys,
This is such an awesome post. I play with loads of drummers and their traps case is the biggest bind - heavier than the sub in most cases!
Any clues where I might be able to get some of that Axis hardware in the UK?

DW's 6000 range of flat base hardware is exceptional.
Not only does it have most of the features of their top line stuff, but the weight is next to nothing.
It starts from a snare stand at just 5.8 lbs. That's insanely light. Check them out here...

It's also not too pricey either.
Failing that, there is also the 8600 range by Gibraltar. They are supposed to fit the same brief...

You could also have Steve Maxwell's shop put something like this together for you:

I picked up a couple Ludwig straight stands they weight next to nothing.. 3 pounds or so.. We'll see if they are stable this weekend,
I was wailing on them on a kit at the store they were pretty sturdy, Moved a bit but nothing that doesn't happen with any other single braced stand..
But real world is always a bit different than store tests..

Re: What's the lightest hardware out there?
I used 2 new Ludwig 600 series straight stands tonight,.. replacing my crash stands.. They worked great. no issues at all. and my hardware case was at least 10 pounds lighter.. Tiny , pencil thin stands with flat leg bases,.. The only had 2 when I bought them so I'm going to get a 3rd when they get new ones in... $42 cdn each,, and lighter than the axis would be,, Only small thing is the cymbal tilter has little notches so the angle isn't as flexible as a ball tilter.. I wouldn't have thought that tiny whimpy flat based stands would be so useable...

That Gibralter stuff looks great! And I'll have to see if any of the local stores have those Ludwig ones... It'd be good to see/try them first off...
