Whatever Paiste's he's playing in the Sting vids sound very thin to me - not digging it at all - I think the A Customs/K Customs he played were much fuller sounding.

Can you really judge that from that poor audio quality clip? I for sure have a hard time doing so.

I always loved Jeff Porcaro´s cymbal sounds though. Nice big long decaying crash sounds, but sweet sounding. I guess Vinnie do favor a lot smaller sizes, and it will be interesting to hear what it will sound like with him.

Part of the reason why I don't think this is as big a deal generally is because these guys can play on any of the big 3 cymbals and it will all. sound.fine. Jeff would have sounded like Jeff on Zildjians. Vinnie will sound like Vinnie with Paiste. Let's not get carried away.

Normally it comes down to what the artist prefers in terms of sound, but in the AAA level there's other factors. Personal interactions, relationship not where you want them and all the sudden brand B starts looking real good. It's people being people.

I disagree Steve...those Paiste hats combined with Jeff's style of playing was magic...they stood out to my ears.
Of course great players can make most equipment sound good, but there are differences between these
companies...that is their signature and why we all have our favorites. Why a big name artists moves from
one company to another might be skewed by money, but that does not negate the specific nuances
each company brings to the drum table. jmo

That Pamela vid was cool, but my first thought was the late 70's and that concert in Japan...Jeff was playing
Paiste hats and the sound was magic and signature to me. I've never really heard this before and assumed
is was largely on Jeff's style, but the cymbal itself has to be part of the equation as well.
