In your anger you are letting your arrogance show.
In the beginning there were a few who genuinely sought to have you, buy example, clarify your esoteric concepts. For whatever reason you are offended by such requests. You also demonstrate a thin skin, a lack of a sense of humor and an intellectual arrogance that has not been earned, IMHO. I also believe you would benefit from some writing classes to aid you in your communication effectiveness. Your writing is cumbersome and that makes explaining esoteric concepts even more of a challenge. Maybe it is not %100 the fault of others that your posts are not getting the response you had hoped.

Now you want to talk technique? And in a condescending manner? That comment has ZERO relevance to what preceded it.

Are you a DCI / rudiments guy?

Matt,
The administrators locked down that post. You were posting what your sense of humor told you was funny.
Apparently it was not funny to them. This is a serious forum. You say nothing about possibly contributing to why it was locked down. It was not your post. To you its funny what happened. In your humor is found your arrogance and condescension. It was not i trying to shut your post down. We both can benefit from writing classes. By not "buy". A verbal
history exists between Jim and myself. He was disrespectful towards me numerous times, and on purpose. You have no knowledge of any of this. Intellectual arrogance. I spoke that way on purpose. No matter what is said to me or about me, is never a reason for me to disrespect others. I apologize to those i offended. I am not DCI, but i use the motions. I was wrong to make that remark towards Jim. You were right to call me on that. Getting the response i hoped for. It is far exceeding anything i hoped for. The tone of your comment is condescending. You accuse me and then do the same
An ultimately Matt, When we stand before the living God to be judged, None of any of this matters.

I never accused you of shutting down the thread. I accused you of being condescending, thin skinned and arrogant. If you find comfort in believing that the thread was locked because paradiddle cat was offensive than that is fine by me. Your words towards, Jim, myself and others who asked you to exemplify your concepts are what I was referring too, NOT the locked thread. Your bringing up paradiddle cat is just you being butt-hurt.

Not sure when we crossed over into mythology.

Good grief.

I haven't really looked on this forum for a week or more, other than a quick scan.

Now I have,my brain hurts...really.

The Mitchell & Webb clip is funny though, and Woody without a hat!

Interesting find Matt...

Like all things musical. Having complex explanations on paper for interesting concepts is nothing more then a academic exercise. True musical knowledge is imparted through the execution of the ideas in context.

Mark Levine, can you show us how you apply these concepts in a musical situation?

Yes, and beyond that, so can you and Matt because you are both very talented drummers.
I believe, that extracting these musical relationships out from their musical context does not reinvent them into academic exercises.

Well thank you. Unfortunately very few of us play gigs that allow for musically relevant nonsense like 5 over 6... 2&4 makes money. If you can make 2 & 4 sit beautiful and groove. Nobody cares about polyrhythms.

Nobody ever said it's reinventing, but outside of context, in a purely mathematical syntax, applying an abstract "system" to things, no matter what you discuss becomes academic and clinical.

I could sit on a forum all day long debating the differences of rolling weight in tubeless vs tubed downhill tires, people post huge graphs, all kinds of equations, numbers and nonsense. The fact the matter is, it's pretty much all pointless. Go out and ride. See what's faster for you. The fact of the matter is, most people don't ride at a level where it really even makes a difference. It's purely theoretical and becomes hypochondria.

Just like this drumming stuff. It truly is useless to talk about it. It's useless because if you are consciously thinking about playing that stuff; IE "I'm going to go for a fill that uses 5:6..." then it's not nearly as musical, if at all. It's contrived and calculated to exemplify that 'cool idea' or whatever. You're not thinking about context. It's not coming out of reaction to the music. It's coming from "I want to play this cool lick" - and that's not music. That's masturbation.

That's the difference. It's one thing to reverse engineer someones playing. It's a totally different thing to be able to play that material in the moment.

Which is why, honestly, if you can't explain and demonstrate a concept in context. Then it's really a lot of hot air.

Talking about playing is not even close to actually playing.
