Bob Gatzen had a similar idea for quick snare removal. He's another innovative guy.
I wonder how the Protean compares to Gavin's old 5x14" Yamaha Recording Custom. I bet Gavin has recorded them side by side and made sure the new drum is at least as good if not better sounding than the RC. The Yammie was his most recorded snare so it'll be interesting if it's replaced with the Protean.

bstocky wrote:Oh, and I have the Cobra Clutch. It's awesome. Works exactly like it's supposed to. A standard drop clutch just drops the top cymbal down to the bottom. It's just laying there. The CC can be set up to make it sound like you have your foot holding the hats together tightly while you're playing dbl.bass. I love it.
and you CAN mount it to the right of the high-hat. I figured out a way to make it work. I'll take pictures this week and bump my old thread if anyone wants to see it.
Great, I wanted at least one review about this thing!
I think I'll buy it soon...
I'd like to see your pics!

Very good marketing effort. I wonder what a replacement key and O-ring set would run from Sonor? Given that the S-hoop is about $25.

The man and the new drum in action...
The bass drum sounds bigger than in other sets/videos (very noticiable at 2:10)

Those short rolls really speak. Those snares really bring out detail in the buzz and long rolls. It's like the drum is doing all the work. Would like to hear that new snare in person and mess around with it. Might take it out to dinner if it sounds great.

Sweet! Been waiting to see some footage of this band live. Some of the tunes are pretty hard to pull off live! Would love to see this band. Shame, I don't live in Europe.
Wonder why Gavin is not doing the US Steven Wilson tour dates. Chad is a good sub/choice but come on.

Why doesn't Danny Carey play in APC? Why do bands even bother with side projects? It's good to take a break and come back refreshed.
and Chad Wackerman has to be the most underrated drummer ever. He's going to blow everyone away with that gig.
