Don't think I've seen this before...

Not sure if the old posts are
stilll around but I talked a LOT
about Tony's setup and his exer-
cises and approach at the time
and all of which were counter-
intuitive. It will sound nuts.

He set everything up to make
you work harder. Number One:
It encouraged you to have more
of a full grip on your sticks for
ultimate control, which he was
the stickler on during the late
70's. I wrote about the humiliation
of my lessons with him being the
loose grip trad player I was as
a youngster. He tore into me like
I was a piece of meat. Shame.

I am talking even tilting the toms
away from you!

I remember your posts from a long time ago, Peter. In fact I've searched and read them again a couple of times during the years, they're that good.

Bananajou,

I am glad that they are still
out there and available. It
is clear that there was a lot
about him that led to ideas
about how and why he did
things. He changed personally
during the 1980s and I think
it was in a good way.

Since the amputation, I have
had a lot of time to think and
about a lot of things but I have
actually spent time on the old
question of his early ride
technique, which he did not
share with me at all. He was
in another world in the later
1970s. I mean he was ALWAYS
in another world. It is just that,
at the time, he was so much
more into the physical part
of playing. It was all about the
force and the control aspect.
At least, that is what he con-
veyed to me. I can forgive him
now in my old age.

PS: There is an interview with
him somewhere out there, where
he is asked if he were to come
back, what would he want to do.
He said 'an investment banker'.

Cool Tony story from Carl Allen

Caught them on that tour. Tony was on FIRE, absolutely. But, you could also see that he was intently listening to Mulgrew Miller, who also was on FIRE and every bit the match. Carl was great too.
