I actually got my first DW pedal back in 1980. The store (Drums Only in Vancouver) had both strap and chain drive, and I opted for the strap drive (they said that more than half of their customers preferred the strap drive too). I then swapped out the strap drive for a sprocket and chain a couple years later, and then continued to use single chain DW5000 pedals (single and double) for the rest of the 80s, and then the double chain version in the 90s. I only stopped using them when I had trouble removing a screw from the footboard while doing some maintenance, and when I contacted DW, they wouldn't help me. I noticed that Gergo had started using the single chain version a while ago, and it got me thinking about trying them again. And then a few days ago, I pulled out a cassette recording of a band I was in many moons ago, and my playing sounded really good (especially the bass drum playing). I know I was playing DW5000 pedals back then, so....

DW 5000 single chain pedal
Has anyone spent much time with the re-released single chain 5000 pedal(s)?

Re: DW 5000 single chain pedal
I've never felt much comfort when I've played DW pedals, but that could be because I've never owned and tinkered with one.
I am curious about these, however as I'm looking at double pedals again for some reason... Have you seen the heelless ones (not the longboard)?

I have seen it online, and in videos, but not in person. It has a double chain though, which I'm not interested in.

Yep, the best pedal I had was a DW 5000 single chain, it broke, I was sad...
I own a DW 5000 double chain with my drum in Paris, but I never really been confortable with it, like it's going from a feather feeling with the single chain, to an elephant's one with the double chain, it sucks...

I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

Re: DW 5000 single chain pedal
Few years ago I went form my trusty old YAMAHA 9000 model pedals to a set of Pearl Demon Direct Drives that I could never really get the right feel of. Having said that I went to a set of Eliminators and converted them to "strap" drive as my first pedal as a teen was a Pearl strap drive....to me they felt amazing.
Now that I play DW I do love my 5000 model and found the 9000 model a little too light fo my liking, just widh I could convert my 5000's to strap drive.

Re: DW 5000 single chain pedal
I still have my DW single chain 5000 and it's been the best pedal I've ever had. Why they went to double chain and no sprocket I'll never know, it was a moronic decision. I've replaced the heel plates and hinge but stopped gigging with it for fear of it breaking
This pedal is THE pedal and I'm now thinking of buying one or at least testing one out. How long have they been doing this?

The 6000 is single chain, and no bottom plate...
I play on a Perfect Balance with a Canopus bearing, so I can't comment about how the 6000 performs.
