So I’ve got my first run of gigs starting in 10 days- last work I had was February 2020. Feeling a bit nervy about the whole thing.

For anyone that’s been back out in the wild after some time (or a pandemic lol)- any friendly neighborhood advice?? These are wedding/corporate/working band sort of gigs. Something I did so much in my 20’s, but pre-pandemic has been mostly musical theater stuff. Weird to be switching gears again but looking forward to diving back in!!

So my return to gigging went pretty well. Nice long 5 hours at a wedding. Honestly playing that long felt fine, but I’d forgotten how brutal the load out is after the gig (lol).

There were some hiccups/near train wrecks between the whole group of players (only had one rehearsal that mainly focused on their various medleys of tunes by decade), and naturally half the tunes called were ones I wasn’t told to prepare for or on the set list, so it was a pretty classic scenario- MD vs singer power struggle and all.

Overall I’m mostly happy with my playing and how it went, despite the curveballs thrown at me. Looking forward to knocking out some more with this group throughout the summer and then it’s on to the next!
