ARI HOENIG--The Thread for Ari Hoenig

Postby jean krupa » Tue Nov 22, 2022 5:57 am

Hi All,
I assume some of you follow Ari and his trios, quartets and projects.
You know he is on the front lines of creative drumming and you can
tune in once / month to hear him streamed live from Smalls Jazz Club
in NYC (free on YT). He tours the world...anyway, for those unfamiliar with his
music (he composes most of the tunes on his many CDs), here is last
night's performance......2 sets....P.S. -- Set #2 ---don't forget to listen to the
tune before the very last called LINES OF OPPRESSION.

If you dig Ari Hoenig AND if you dig jazz, you can tune in
to see VIDEO and AUDIO of every show EVERY DAY 24/7.

Smalls uses 3 cameras and starts nightly at 7:30 and second show @ 9:00.
Then midnight jams. I donate $10 on Jan 1st each year (one time only) and this allows
me to go to their website and see/hear each show and jam. I've seen
GREAT LIVE SHOWS with drummers like Ralph Peterson, Ari Hoenig, Tommy Campbell,
Rudy Royston, Billy Hart, Mark Whitfield Jr, Kush Abedey, K Wash, Savannah Harris,
Jimmy Macbride !!!!, Jason Tiemann, Byron Landham, Ian Fromon, Billy Drummond,
Ben Perowsky and many other great jazz drummers.

The Smalls archive allows you to search and see any previous show going back many years. For me, this is
like going to a jazz club WITHOUT travelling, spending any money and getting to
see the current group of jazz drummers making their mark. On Jan 8, Ari Hoenig
will be playing the room for 2 sets (7:30 & 9:00) and I'll be at my computer
listening and learning. And if that is not enough those sets are streamed on YT simultaneously.
