I know, it's crazy. Every manufacturer offers the same limited sizes for setups. In the last few years, they all decided that 10 and 12 were THE size for toms. 30 years ago NOBODY played 10 and 12, except for Gadd. You have to order them individual a la carte if you want anything else.

I hear you man, I think that now it's like "fusion set up", 10", 12", 14" floor tom, and 20" bass drum... :-(
What a shame... :-(

It's all my fault. Way back in the day I used to sit at the counter at my local drum shop and bitch about how irritating it was that drum companies force a "rocker" 12/13/16 set up on drummers unless you custom ordered a kit. I demanded some great drum company, say ... Yamaha?, start offering entry- and mid-level kits with "professional" 10/12/14 set ups. My drum guy became the veep of of a major drum company and changed the world.

This story is mostly true.

Another thing I find odd is how bass drums are all at least 18" deep now too. Does everyone drive a van? And why aren't there more entry-level sets with a 20" bass drum? Tons of 22s, and lots of 18s, but very few 20s.

Have we gone far enough off topic yet?
