It's funny you say that, Joe, I thought the same thing. On the DVD, Shannon demonstrates the jazz ride pattern funk groove with an uncanny Jeff wrist movement that's straight from Jeff's video as well. Here's Jeff beautiful take on that groove:

That VHS/DVD was a template for a lot of guys. I go back and watch it quite often. I just wish they hadn't butchered the DVD so badly. I wore my VHS tape out.

I never gave Jeff a chance, because every drummer was talking about the Rosanna-groove back in the day....And boy, did I hate Toto's music. The opinion on that band hasn't changed much, but in just only recent years I've come to realise that this guy probably had one of the deepest grooves of all time. And consistency maybe equalled only by Gadd. Perfection. Any serious drummer acknowledges that about the hardest thing in drumming is to play the simplest of grooves consistently with that asshaking-feelgood -quality.

Do any of you know of a no nonsense list of session tracks (not just albums) that Jeff played on
that is more comprehensive than this one? http://www.frontiernet.net/~cybraria/jp-ag.htm

I am putting together a playlist on Rdio to mark the 20th anniversary of Jeff's death later this year.

Have you heard Kingdom of Desire? Gotta be some tracks that kick your butt there.

As for sessions...I think I am the only one who has compiled a year-by-year session list.
See: http://jeffporcaro.blogspot.com/2001/01/jeff-porcaro-sessions.html Pretty cool.

The man was VERY busy from '75-'82...in fact as I understand it, when TOTO won their
Grammys for TOTO IV...that same year, the boys also played on 22 other Grammy nominated
recordings. Imagine being an artist at the Grammys and seeing TOTO win saying...
"Oh yeah...they played on my record too!"

The session list site mentioned is pretty comprehensive...lists the LP and tracks...not
sure what else you would want. I add the year, so you could bounce to 1975 and see what
he did in alpha order.

Check out the blog for more...especially the Kingdom of Desire recording session.

If that's the case, then I don't need more. I wasn't sure how comprehensive it was.
Thanks for clearing that up, Joe.

That's insane. And yet, not at all surprising.
