Hey Pocket,
These are the ones that came to my mind immediately. Not really "rock," not really "swing" but super funky. Buddy really had a nice loose straight eighth feel, like some of the older rock drummers like Bonham, Ian Paice, etc.
Pure Buddy "swunk." I wore this out. Just soooo loose, and really laid back (for Buddy.)

I wore this one out as well

This has a nice latin 6/8 undercurrent at times, but Buddy smoothes it out with some BIG backbeats, I'd never heard this before.

This is the probably the most "obvious" one, I think everyone wore this out, (I know as a 10 year old kid, I did.) Still VERY cool though.

Check out how he lays it down behind Marcus' solo in this.

People usually play this one too fast, great chart though!

I couldn't find any examples of Buddy's greasy shuffle on Youtube, no wonder (people there are too concerned with the drum-mastics)
Again, I'm NO "Buddy Freak," but this is a forgotten component of his playing that I really dig. Call it what you want, "Fusion Buddy," "Rock Buddy," "Buddy Tying To Stay With The Times." Whatever.... he had a GREAT groove!
Then here's a few examples of Buddy being "humbled" by the presence of his musical peers.

And a GREAT brush album

And "just" swinging!!!!

MSG
PS. YES Julian "Buddy's Rock" is a good one too!
He sounds like Bernard Purdie on a few of these.

Re: The Buddy Rich television show
Buddy's Rock is the only one that comes closest to a 8th note hat groove.
I know there is a vid out there if memory recalls because I was stunned at how
long he played time on the hates...and I loved it.
This for me gets back to the Steve Smith History of the US Beat when cats like
Earl Palmer transitioned into the straight 8th groove but still had that swing
undertone. The next generation growing up with "rock" skipped that development.
For me, it was Ian Paice for some reason, especially on Machine Head growing up
listening to swing and big bands transitioned into rock playing fills so unconventional.
His time also felt different than other drummers later on who probably grew up in
that musical era ala EW&F where the straight 8th feel ruled.
I just can't imagine Buddy practicing...ever. He seems always in motion...classic
type A personality. One that one video, his one handed singles just seem so organic
and effortless...this was a one of a kind personality and talent...keep in mind, he had
no instructional vids to watch...it was mostly all organic and watching other drummers
live...and of course recordings.
He reminds me of a very bright personality, usually bored and critical around the average
person, can't settle (listen his frustrations on the Carson vid...Catsup, service sucks, etc)
has high standards for everything, can't understand why others don't see life like he does.
Not the type of guy who is going to be standing in line at the PO or DMV.

Re: The Buddy Rich television show
Let's identify this Television Show correctly.
It was not called THE BUDDY RICH television show.
It was called AWAY WE GO.
Named after a tune of the same name, from the LP, THE NEW ONE.
