Well I'm sure you all you guys are the exception!! Jojo Mayer's interview with drum department he talks about the same thing and he is of European origin.

The solo Vinnie does on the Jeff Beck "Live at Ronnie Scott" DVD, there's a short phrase that sounds more like alternating flams between snare/bass than a true ladder -- Is he 'ladderering' in a strict sense or using the right foot only? He nails the sh*t out of it.
