Big Weckl announcement?
Re: Big Weckl announcement?
will wait for it to come out to hear what the music is like. if the tunes they were playing in the preview on the album might pass. it's the same stuff. just a slightly different melody. guess i'm in. it's just 15 bucks. maybe chick will write a killer tune like he did on dave's first album where gadd played. heck have steve gadd do another drum duet with dave. i'm sure there is some fire left in his pot.

Yes Kurtis, the music is very like some others on their previous albums.
I think they shoud revisit some of their Master Plan and Hired Wired tunes.
I bought the 110 $ package. I wanted the Videos of the DVD, and the video extras too.
Good luck Dave !!

Looks interesting, I'd pick it up just for the production stuff. I can take only so much keyboard soloing.

Very cool project!
I like Jay's compositions. Those first 3 tunes on Master Plan are killer!
He may have been influenced by Josh Freese for record funding but in a more serious way:
http://joshfreese.com/my_new_friends/
$7500
Engage in light "80's hair metal/pinup girl gossip" w/ Tommy Lee, Josh and Lohner while a 'C List Porn Star' applies 'corpse paint' to your astonished face.
Next you'll be escorted to the opulent gardens of Castle Renhold‘r, where the 4 of you will be Throwing Bones under the midnight moon in a blasphemous attempt to evoke the spirit/entity of YOUR CHOICE! (BYOB)
$10 000
Take home Josh's now infamous Volvo 940 Station Wagon (Perfect for hauling drums, plenty of room for getting busy in spacious back-seating area. Good for trips to Good Will or disposing bodies.)
Make Josh's next record for him
Josh joins your band for 2 days (quick book some studio time!)
"Motorboat" Sarah for a minute or so (Josh's wife's friend...couples welcome, discreet parking available)
Oh yeah...$100 gift certificate to PF Changs and a bumper sticker that says something funny on it.
$75 000
Josh joins your band for a month (or becomes your personal assistant)
Take home one of Josh's drumsets
Josh writes and records a 5 song EP entirely about YOU.
Take Shrooms and cruise Hollywood in Danny from TOOL's Lamborgini.
500 copies of "My New Friends" (start your own online CD store...specializing in just this one CD)
Go get matching outfits at Tommy Bahama's and make everybody very sad.

Fronting up money for a project is a new concept. It's like pre order. Dave seems to have tunes all lined up. He just wants cash. He has such a huge following he can do that. Cash is King. What he's doing is a tad greedy. Once he gets what he needs to compensate the project the left over money is hey now cash. All the power to him. Work the system. These days I like to sample a product. Why? Cause you can. A 30 second sample is enough to make up your mind if you dig or don't dig. I always buy anything Dave plays on. This new approach is just a bit off for me. During the promo when he said you can hang with me and have dinner and enjoy a gig. WTF. I could donate $400 to his project and just get the bottem minimum of this package. Will he fly people and put them up at hotel in LA at a gig at Catalina? Please. What a joke. It's a miss.

Re: Big Weckl announcement?
No.
The figure is based on what it takes for two full time professional musicians to take two months off from all touring/recording to write and self produce a record, charts, and behind the scenes video. Tunes aren't really written / lined up yet.
Anything above and beyond, well, profit. But this isn't an attempt to gouge their fanbase. It's an attempt to try working for The New Boss.

Greedy? Disagree.
It's expensive to make a project like that and it has never been more challenging to make a living playing music, much less fusion.
BTW I would not have used that word, but that's just me.
None of it strikes me as unreasonable given the current industry climate. I just have to get off my ass and donate. =)

Re: Big Weckl announcement?
Greedy? Some of you guys are un-believable. I suppose that musicians should just put up the money first and then lose money when no one buys it because you've decided that 30 second clips are enough for you not to buy it? I'm gonna sound like an old fogey, but there was a time when you just had to risk it and buy Hard Wired or Master Plan when it was released. No previews, no samples of songs. And certainly no stake in the process. We have an opportunity in the creation process for some of our favorite artists and all some of you guys can do is complain that 'it's just a cash grab". God forbid an artist make money? There is so much complaining about buying albums anymore, it's just ridiculous. You would think that the modern music listener is so financially conservative, as not to spend $15, that they were all collecting rain water and purifying it just so they wouldn't have to pay for water. Give me a break, support your favorite artists.

I think that vid is more than enough to have an idea of what are they going for this time. Right?
Re: Big Weckl announcement?
I went over the edge a bit on my post, but I know where some of you guys are coming from. This is somewhat of the new model for making music though. Consumers pay up front, or prepay for the album. It's a guarantee to make sales. I think its just too risky for this type of genre to put out an album (or risky enough) and then expect to break even.
