Steve Holmes vids
Re: Steve Holmes vids
I love it! I really like that bit at 0:42 to 0:52. Is that like a 1/4 note triplet thing on the bell?

Yeah Steve RUSH! I remember the days we went to MI late at night and played double drums to RUSH tunes. Other guys would play also. I'll bring my drums and we can cover YYZ or any song off of Hemispheres.
The new video is great Steve. Nice phrasings. Hitting a tad harder. love it.

Thanks guys!
I actually recorded the drums to a click without any music - then added Logic loops on top afterward. It was fun!

It's more a half-note triplet (3 over 4) but with kick and snare staying on the normal groove.

That´s what I did with the improvised grooves videos I did (on HODer´s videos), but with shorter grooves.
It´s really a very joyful and creative way of music/drum production.
Great Steve !!
And your sound production has improved in this latest video (bigger and defined ) and...50 FPS?

Steve, what kind of mental notes are you taking when re-watching that clip?
Curious about what you like and what you don´t about that performance... Sounds great imho!

There's a couple downbeats that land before the track but I didn't want to correct that in post. I wish I had more hand-foot combination type phrasing on the toms. I don't like the sound of the 10" tom - needs a tuning pass to be more resonate. I keep my left hand at an angle thats so steep that it prevents natural bounce on the snare sometimes. I always notice watching back but rarely work on correcting it.
I took away the 2nd tom and splashes to force myself to play the same stuff but on less. Seems to be working but I miss the rolls down all 3 toms sometimes.

This was fun - I found a cool free notation program called MUSINK to make the transcriptions for this on. Let me know if you guys think this is clearly explained enough.
