Hello Kinkymook,

I think you're wrong about the drums Vinnie had in the Soul Cages Live video (as the one of the Sting's 40th Birthday Concert). All the drums are Yamaha and not Gretsch. I believe this model was the prototype of the Maple Custom with the model of lugs monted on the Yamaha Turbo tour Kit between 1989-1991. The Gretsch ones are a little bit shorter. Plus if you look inside the toms, there is no silver sealer ... ;)

That was an observation from the chap on the Drummerworld forum, not mine.

I think Ive seen what looked to be Gretsch drums with the Yamaha logo front head in videos myself. Sure it could be some weird prototype Yamaha kit, but Im pretty up on my Yamaha gear. They havnt all seemed like Yammies to me. I could be wrong though.

On this shot from Glasgow this last Saturday 17th, they sure don't look like Zildjians to me...

Looks like a 400 for a snare, so i guess the rumors could be true? You can some writhing underneath the ride cymbal on the far side. Almost looks like a 70's Zildjian hollow logo, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

So funny you mentioned the snare. I was thinking it looked like a Black Beauty. I only looked and took notice because as mentioned earlier he has been favoring that hammered brass with the different throw off.
