Great replies everyone!
I've been listening to a lot of Landau recently. What's interesting to me is that his playing style these days is quite different from the 80s rock/fusion style he (among others, like Lukather and Dann Huff) were known for. He's got a lot more blues and jazz in his playing these days.
Whatever, though...love Mike, regardless of what style he's playing!

Re: Favorite guitarists....
I`m mainly a guitarplayer. I`ve been through many phases and though I`d had some of his records for a while it wasn`t until I got the Burning Water stuff and went to a Karizma show in Oslo I really got it. It changed my approach to the guitar completely.
Mike Landau isn`t the only guitar player I like, but it`s the guitar player who`s approach I can relate to the most. Here`s a clip of my playing one of his songs. It`s not the greatest performanceand and was during the health issues which later got me into playing drums when a practice pad was my only therapy. But it`s already been out there for a while, so.....

Ahhh man seeing Karizma live... so cool.
My favorite guitarist is Tim Reynolds.
I'd also throw Phil Keaggy in there too. His 'Acoustic Sketches' album is unreal.

Josiah, the solo spot he has on Luther College, I think its called Steam, is jaw dropping. The stuff he also plays behind Dave's songs is so amazingly complimentary. After hearing the full band do those songs for years, it was always hard to imagine any other arraingement of those tunes, but he was able to take it to another place that was just as good, without merely mimicking what was already there.

Totally, Stream is a badass solo tune, on that particular tour he did different ones on different nights too. Stream is off one of his solo cd's, which he has a lot of. TR3 is pretty wild stuff too.
The Live at Luther College is a killer cd, 2 acoustic guitars and 1 voice making so much amazing music.

I did, too. Had to edit though when I realized my omission the first time around.

Not near future if my memory serves me, but a trio with Allan Holdsworth,
Jimmy Haslip and Virgil will be at the Iridium at March 15, 16 and 17 in the new year.
