That was some of the nicest complementary drumming from both Gavin and Simon. Wow !!! No egos, just melodies and rhythm.

I'm curious about the bass drum beater being so bad that it needed replacing. What was wrong with exactly I wonder?

I actually tried those Tama beaters recently and I returned them. Way too heavy for me.

The drumset was from a national backline company. They supplied Simon's set for these two spanish shows. The pedals were Tama Iron Cobra but the beaters weren't the originals ones. They got one soft felt pair, "from the 70's" as Simon said joking and a Pearl four sides model, too heavy.
I googled in my iphone for a picture of the ones I had, and showed it to Simon. He happily accepted. He explained me the reasons and gently asked me how long it would take me to bring them to the stage.
I said it would be a pleasure. And it was true.
After the show he thanked me again the lending.
Finally my beaters didn't travel to San Sebastian because they could find them through their contacts in that city.
I am on the iphone. When I am at home I will detail some others things of this day. VERY COOL.
DSOP, I find them light but precise and powerful.

They're definitely not light, but perhaps lighter than the Pearl ones. I am using the newer Yamaha double-sided beaters, and they're much lighter and work better for me. I do like the design of those Tama beaters, but I wish they used a lighter shaft. I may try the Danmar felt beaters, which I used to use over 20 years ago. I'm not sure how they will compare.

Damn it...!!!
This afternoon, while I'm setting my drums for a gig tonight, for the first time since Simon Phillips used my BD beaters... I've mounted it on my pedal, play it and...damn...Last week I forgot to hit the RECORD SIMON'S SKILLS button of the beater !!!!
(I almost have the REVIEW and PICTORIAL ready)

Kurtis, I wish they put all that show on Youtube !!
For spanish HODers: all the concerts of this last edition of San Javier Jazz Festival are going to be on TV.
And surely with some ULTRA CLOSE UPS of Simon: During all the concert there was a cameraman literally OVER Simon´s head !!
For that reason some spectators complained about it.
This is the calendar and times of the concerts on spanish TV:
