You're absolutely right. The only way to force iTunes (Apple) to take a more reasonable cut, is for a competitor to come along and offer a different deal (Amazon is just as bad). It will happen eventually. I personally have never used any Apple products or software, and never will.
But what about Google and YouTube? They don't want to pay ANYTHING for using copyrighted material. They force the owners of the copyright to police their sites and go through laborious hurdles to take down content (of course, by that time it's already been copied a millions times). And then, they STILL link to the content and post a notice saying WHO TOLD THEM TO REMOVE IT. This has to stop.
And then you've got the all-out pirating and P2P websites which just need to be shut down and prosecuted.
