Why in THE LORD'S HOLY NAME won't Pearl change their mounting system? I cringe every time I see the "pipe" running into a tom... Come on, it's 2014.

The "pipe" doesn't go "into" the tom. It goes into a bracket that then attaches to the tom at four points/lugs. It's not aesthetically beautiful (to me), but it works well. No need to go postal about it though. Pretty much every drum manufacturer's tom mounting system is abysmal.

If he can still bring the pain to the kit, then good for him.

I could never get a good position with Pearl mounts. If I had a rack, perhaps. They are in one spot on the BD, no movement fore and aft. That's a PITA.
