Clint - I'm not sure what to tell you honestly in terms of recommendations. My current room is maybe 15x15? I'm totally guessing.

Juan - The source footage from the 7d always looks pro - that's key. Exporting with Premiere it's h.264 codec in a mp4 file. AAC audio at 256k I believe ( I usually don't go that high for purposes od demoing audio I did this time).

Have you changed your Nikon for the Canon 7D ?

Yeah the old Nikon I had didn't do video. The Canon 7D does 1080p 30/24 and 720p 30/60 for Gods sake. It's amazing. You can only record clips up to 12 mins in length though, just means I need to keep the drum solo vids that long =)

In the mix, I would increase the level of the close mics (SD, BD and TOMS).

+1 for sure. It sounds like the majority of the sound is coming from the overheads, which is a great sound. However, bringing in more of the closed mic channels will give you even more punch and tone in the toms.

Also, try adding a little bump in the eq on your kick around 3-5K and see what that does.

Sounds great. But it looks like the tom mikes are almost on the toms. I would lift them up a bit to see the difference. The same with the snare. It is fun to move the snare mike back a 1/4 to 1/2 inch and hear the dramatic difference. Sweet!

Steve, I'm curious, what are the rough dimensions of the blue room? I have my kit set up in a bedroom that's quite long,( probably 15' long) but has a low (8') ceiling. I have another bedroom that's probably half that size or less but the ceiling is about 14' and want to know which is better for recording.

I think most people (including myself) would lean towards the taller the ceiling, the better.
