New never-before seen Vinnie footage

Postby Steve Holmes » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:14 am

In 2000 there was a show at the Baked Potato on Sunset in LA (which is now closed) featuring Vinnie playing with Jeff Richman. They put out a CD of some of that show, but for those of us that were there, we know that a CD wasn't enough to capture what happened that night. We've been sitting on this footage in hopes of having something to trade if someone else came along with something just as big (Vinnie with Holdsworth video footage or something). Nothing has come up so this footage has remained in the HoD archive since then, only brought out and viewed at most of the HoD hangs. Never digitized or uploaded.
Until now.
We've decided to share some bits of this show, starting with this 3 minute clip from a sax solo that is a personal favorite. This was the first song of the second set so Vinnie was good and warmed up at this point. Now bear in mind, he's playing very aggressively, so it's just raw drum porn at this point. But the kind only Vinnie can provide when he's in the zone. And man, he was zoning that night.

I've seen this countless times so I thought i would mention some highlights:
- left hand/ left foot hi hat phrasing at :022
- The amazing left hand phrasing at 0:38. This is Buddy level stuff as far as I'm concerned.
- The Floor tom phrase heard around the world at 1:17. Good God.

So here you go internet. Enjoy.

What's the over/under on the time it takes Vinnie to get his panties in a bunch and have it yanked?

Thanks for posting though.

Steve, a million thanks, man! More practice inspiration. If someone made a video demonstrating some of the phrasing, (a'la Riley) he might be less likely to pull it. ;) :)

Man, he's on fire there...

It would seem bombastic to some, but the way he's filling in the gaps behind the soloist is wicked.

The internet is the greatest thing. Or as drunk Jeff Goldblum would put it: "Internet, I'd say internet"
(link to that) :)

Yeah I've seen that. It's crap quality and the camera is all over the place. =(
