Electronic Pads

Does anyone here use an Octapad, Alesis PerformancePad, or something similar?

I'm able to find the specs between the various devices online, but just wondering how these hold up in gigs. Say, if I have to quickly change parameters on filters or other FX during a song, do I have to navigate several menus and can I do this easily on the fly when the setlist changes or other surprises arise?

I'd like to use the electronics in addition to acoustic drums and avoid using multiple pieces of electronic gear and laptops if possible. The new Octapad looks great in that you can upload your own sounds via USB if needed, keeping the whole setup self-contained in one unit.
