I was at one gig at Baked Potato beginning 2000 or so, it was in January during NAMM, I remember being at that pole, with around me Dave Weckl, Jojo Mayer, John Robinson, maybe Carmine was there too, it was insane, and more insane was Vinnie's drumming !!!
Mike Landau was on guitar, Abe on bass, I guess Greg Mathieson on key.

For the little story, at the break, Vinnie came my way for going out at the parking's place for smoking, then he told me "hey Rodge, you made it, I'm glad you're there !!!"
Then he put his arm around my shoulder and we left outside...
I could feel people thinking, who's that guy with Vinnie, I was blushing and proud like a mofo... :)

Vinnie at the Spud early 2000's
Told this story several times...not sure if there will ever be that
kind of energy again after NAMM show...we're all gettin older...
before cell phones took off...video cameras...Vinnie playing w guy
aiming video cam at him...slow burn...anger brewing...making gestures
at the guy between songs...end of set...Vinnie blasts out of drum throne
and b-lines toward back door after the cam guy...yelling at him...GIVE
ME THAT TAPE...

Was just wondering if anyone had listened to the newest edition of Breakfast With Vinnie with Pete Zeldman, a very bittersweet listen because as I write this I’ve seen tributes to Pete passing today although the latest update of the GoFundMe page that is dated as of today that Pete is still with us but unable to talk…. Super ahead of his time and someone I had the immense pleasure of studying with in the UK a few years back and also read on the page that there’s a Modern Drummer interview in the works too
