Yeah.

It's real jazz and seems like where he wants to be. Very free and open.

When they played Naima I have a feeling it wasn't really planned. More like a stage crew request, or something.

Still not sure if Vinnie will be playing with Herbie in Atlanta in October.

Paul, maybe you have some insight?

Vinnie's site doesn't have it listed, and Herbie's site says band TBA. Im sure whoever Herbie brings will be top notch and the show will be great, but I would be lying if I said the main event for me wasn't seeing Vinnie.

Side note, seeing Vinnie's ride placement to the far right just drives me nuts. Of course thats just My opinion, which is of no consequence.

I would be surprised if he wasn't. Sting has Josh and Vinnie is loving this. Way more humane than Sting's regular touring schedule, too.

He did that when he got the Heuer kit.

Many people play like that, but in a way looks like that small right crash took the place of the splashes in front and because of room and visibility the just moved them over a bit. The splash position isn't new. Think he had an 8" or something in that spot already on the first Sting tour. Not sure if he played it at all on Wednesday, but good place to keep it limited to a few left handed accents during a hi-hat roll or something. Though not completely sold on his cymbal sound theese days for my taste, it's cool to he him experiment a bit. Tony and Billy didn't use any splashes, did they?

Pics from the show:

Mic looks like a breath controller.

Guess it was a 22" after all. Just sort of looked small and had a very 20" like sound going on.

In the pocket Vinnie style. So clean and creative the first minute of the song. How he thinks up this shit is beyond me. Another must have Vinnie recording.

"How he thinks up this shit is beyond me." --love it!

K-Man...killer post...WOW...that killed! Need to make a loop of
that groove! I obsess on pocket groove like this...the fine balance
of not overplaying, sounding like you are throwing in your latest
practice routine, keeping it musical and serving the song...which
is why I usually "feel" cats that throw these hat "flurries" into a song
do not sound "musical"...especially when covering a tune from the
original...nothing worse than that in my book!

His hats "shit" kills me...many clones of this style but VC
OWNS this!!! I don't even try to think about it anymore...
let others analyze this stuff but would LOVE to hear someone
break it down, especially the Nik Kersahw LP...over 25 years old
but still cutting edge stuff in a pop setting!!!

The video above gets better upon each subsequent viewing. The look on the keyboard player's face says it all :D
