Someone recorded this, putting his life at risk to prove us that the energy is still there.
WOW.
Edit: The power, the creativity... the camera point of view, and this tune....
I think I'm going to watch this 100 more times.

Yeah. That's just fucking stupid. He's really pushing the metrics there.

That's some mad energy. Wow. Still shocked Sting and the other members of the band let him go wherever he wants. It's great playing and ideas. He's still a mad man. Age has not slowed him down. He will be playing like this in his grave.

Vinnie, with this particular song, is living on the edge of manic! I can't imagine the boredom of a night to night situation like he's been in for, what, 2 maybe 3 years? He's so inside that tune that all bounds of propriety are gone and he's living on the border where good taste and unimaginable facility collide. One step this or that way and it's one or the other.

Somebody commented earlier about the band letting Vinnie do whatever he wants. Of course! They're just as bored as Vinnie! He's their magic man! How many times have you heard this tune and heard Sting call Vinnie out: "C'mon Vinnie?" This is signature Vinnie and why Sting hired him in the first place because Vin has the facility to impress even the band members night after night.

Personally, I wonder what this eventually does for Vinnie. I really miss the subtle, explosive chops of yesteryear, the "Yamaha/Zildjian" days when Vinnie seemed to be playing with everyone and their music caused Vinnie to spontaneously react. What I see more of today is rote.

Who can blame the guy!? It's money and a very prestigious artist to be playing for, a dream for most of us mortals.

That backstage clip was great - someone figured out how to capture Vinnie...
