THE EARLY YEARS.

I've been listening to VC boots from 1979 to late 1980s
with DOG CHEESE.....COMA.....KARIZMA.

It's very apparent ( IMO ) that VC was more than ready
to take on McLaughlin's music with Mahavishnu Orchestra,
or Chick's Return to Forever, or Larry Coryell's 11th House, etc.

If you listen to those 1979 to mid 80 boots, you will hear
some very powerful, hard hitting, in Total Command, musical,
polyrhythmic and perfectly executed drumming.

I think just as VC was ready for Zappa's challenging music,
he was ready for McLaughlin, Corea's music if they were still
playing as a unit in late 1970s.

The tune, Dog Cheese, with VC's into playing quarter note triplets
starting on the 2nd triplet beat, alone shows his uniqueness.

Who knows how advanced VC's playing was pre-Zappa? Seems to me
he was like Steve Gadd when Gadd hit the scene....Gadd was prepared
for everything that they threw at him and even created a new style
of drumming in the process.

The way most peoples' minds work:

According to Vinnie @ 10:31...this is the way his mind works:

He has one of the most nimble minds I've ever come across. Sometimes his explanations seem to go way out there, but then he manages to tie it all together. Pretty much the way he he plays.

Thanks for posting, Rodge.

Hate to be snarky, but somehow I can't picture any video being titled "Ali Jackson Legend"
