New Old videos of Virgil

Postby Morgenthaler » Thu Jan 19, 2012 11:44 am

These surfaced within the last week.
The first one is Virgil's first "instructional video", filmed in 1986.
It's unbelievable that only 5 years later he would record 'Power Drumming'.

Some good stuff on here, though. Very 1986 :)
I particularly enjoy the parts that start around 6:37 and his time and feel on the final tune.

The next one is some even earlier stuff. Early 80's TV work.
I like the interlude at 2:20.

I just talked to him an hour ago. He's looking forward to touring with Allan
all through the year in Europe and the US - and playing in L.A. in the coming days.

This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I just bought his double bass book, lots of crazy stuff in there.

Awesome to see this in such good quality!

I can't think of many drummers who were applying these kinds of double bass drum patterns in the mid-80's; he sure was a pioneer, even though most of the world never knew about it at the time...

The mullet, the chops, the camisole, the Sonor endorsement... Virgil already had everything to succeed way back in the eithties :)

But seriously, this is bad asses videos, you can see that he was overdue when he came into the limelight in the late nineties.

@Morgenthaler While reading the Double Bass Freedom book yesterday, I saw your name in the thanks page. Are you working for him in some way?

Yes - mostly online work. I work on his website (we hope to redo it this year),
and on his presence on Facebook, Google+ and YouTube plus bits here and there.

Kudos for noticing my name in the book :)
