I broke my Equation Audio phones recently and I need some new ones. Although I did get used to them over time what I want in my new pair is:
- they must cover my whole air.
- I'm in a smaller room than I used to be, so they need to dampen a lot.
- I use them 8-10 hours a day, so they need to produce a pleasant sound, and be comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
- I'd prefer something I can use on my ipod, drum machine and tiny Vaio laptop, without needing a headphone amp.
- My budget is not unlimited. I can't afford super high end stuff, but I'll be willing to spend about $200, maybe more if there's a good reason for it. It's a main piece of gear, so I'm not gonna be stingy if it's worth it.
Please read my list before suggesting anything. I don't want to use in-ears. Thanks in advance.

The Vic Firth ones sound good enough to me for practicing. I wouldn't want them as my only pair of headphones though.

I'm very very pleased with these, relatively cheap also.

I second the senheisser 280's..
the only problem with headphones that block out sound is that they fit tight on your head..
comfort and sound blockage are hard to find..

I use in ear cheapo phones with shooting headphones over them. Works for me. I hear the dual driver sonys sound nice and have a heavy duty cord with them. I also put shooting headphones on, you can listen to lower levels and not get ear fatigue.

I've been doing that too!

I have these and like them:

Might or might not do the trick for you. I don't use them for isolation.

A little tightness is ok if they stay put when moving my head around.
Isolation is important, also good bass definition and no unnatural unpleasant highs.

Regular earplugs and shooting cans will give you that... Cheap and comfy.
