PA/Mixer Live Sound Recommendations

Postby Robert Schwieger » Wed Feb 29, 2012 11:14 pm

Greetings,

I'm in the market for a new PA set up for my band and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations?

Cover band, small to medium size venues, bars, clubs, outdoor gigs and rehearsals. Four piece, bass, drums, gtr. keys and vocals. Would probably only run vocals, backing tracks through the PA for most gigs. Maybe run some kick, snare, etc. for outdoors gigs, etc. We were using a hodgepodge of gear from various members of the band. A small Fender powered mixer (SUNN SR6300P) that just kicked the bucket. We also have a Mackie Power amp (FR M-1400i), speakers (mains, monitors) mics, etc.

I'm leaning towards a new mixer and maybe dumping the monitors and going with an ear in system. Curious what the rest of you were using?

Whats your budget?

If you go in ears you'll need some thing with lot's of aux outs or a splitter..

Presonus makes a digital mixer that's pretty cool

I use a Yamaha emx 512.. for smaller clubs,.. just vox, kick, mostly, but sometimes mic a guitar/bass and drum overhead a well. Works good, tons of power...

I'm thinking of upgrading to this one..

It looks pretty neat for an all in one..

Thanks Chris. Budget-around $1500 tops. I'm hoping to narrow it down to a couple models and find something in good shape on craigslist used.

Someone recommended this, which has firewire so you can record to a computer as well as use it for live sound at the same time.

That presonus looks pretty sick, mabye more than we can afford though.

I was also looking into a used yammy 01v96.

Way over the budget but if you can try L-Acoustics. That might be the best pro audio out there, the monitors are awesome too.
