I'll never forget the time I saw Virgil doing a clinic in the mid 90's in a Toronto suburb. T'wasn't so much his ferocious double-bass chops that impressed me most but his outstanding dynamic control on the snare. He demonstrated it playing pianissimo rudiments at high tempo on the snare alone... Totally blew me away... wow...

Funny thing was, there were some big names Toronto Fusion cats in the house. I still remember hearing one's envious comments after the clinic... "Yeah he's good but I could pull that off too"....
Wha? Really???

I dont play the bass but that guy is pretty awesome...a lot like Geddy Lee in terms of the effortless singing/playing simultaneously

The two albums Virgil did with Joel Hoekstra remain favorites of mine

It warms my heart to hear from you, Pete. I've thought of you so many times.
Virg is crazy busy these days, but I'll see what I can do.

Much love, J
