Don't mention it - and yes, Alex is quite the monster. He also mixed and mastered this album and his solo on Red Air is great, as are the other solos.
I also really like the connection between the bass parts and bass drum parts on this one.

FINALLY! :)

"In This Life" is now available for pre-order.
The album will be released on July 23 and those who pre-order either the digital album or the CD digipak will automatically get a link to download the album on release day.

All pre-order customers will also automatically go into the draw to win one of Virgil's personal snare drums used on several tracks on the album.
Virgil will autograph the drum for the winner.

Just downloaded and took a listen.

Good tune? Full of Virgil drumnastics for sure.

Drum sound...ehhhh. Confused as to what he was going after.

Hate to say this, but it is not as good as OTV, Serious Young Insects.

What do I know...I've moved eight times in four years!

Re the drum sound, it's too close to what he sounded like on Devil's Slingshot, which was terrible. As for the song itself, only listened to it once so not going to cast judgements yet

I went through the steps to pre-order the CD until it came to six dollar shipping for a CD. I'll wait until I can order it on Amazon.

You can order the album as download from spinshop as well: http://virgildonati.spinshop.com/Home/details/202784 (sending more money directly to Virg)

OTV is 14 years old. You should not expect something similar. Also, are you reviewing the album based on 1 track?

I've heard 7 of the 10 final tracks and no, it will probably not top OTV, which in my book is the most bad ass fusion album ever,
but this is still better than most other things around these days, it is original, fearless and complex and asks something of the listener.

NB: I was quite involved in the (visual) production of this album, so I am biased.

Yes...only the sample track. Music, personal preference...OTV moved me bigtime...LOVED IT! The overall sound, drum sound...everything...just loved it. What can I say. Did not get the same vibe at all from this. Might be a testament to my lack of musical growth. Heck...I just drove 1500 miles and the best song on my CD player was Survivor's Caught in the Game...again...drum sound is perfect for me in that song.

As for Virgil, nothing but love and respect for his dedication, skill level, commitment, endurance, discipline...the whole bag that makes the man THE MAN. I might not dig a tune or specific performance, but ANY musician at this level who continues to stay in the game...NOTHING but respect!

More samples on Amazon... Sounds like a really solid CD... Track 5 took me by surprise somehow, nice string melody .. :)

A few more highlights from the jam with Junior Ribeiro Braguinha:

Now that's a SNARE sound! POP goes da Virgie. Cymbals sound equally as good.
Beautiful...great camera angle and mix. Give me more of this any day.
His tom sound always sounds dull to me since going to Pearl...don't get that.
