Sorry, Rodge...I wasn't really talking about sports...I was referring to exercising. Doing cardiovascular exercises (as well as watching what one eats) will do wonders for stamina. Of course, Virgil might be a freak and just have natural stamina without working out. Or maybe it's the amount and type of practicing that he does? Ahhhh...the mysteries of life.

He's always been open about him practicing yoga and running. I remember a tour video of him doing both on the beach, years ago. Jeppe must know which one I'm talking about.
Some yoga styles are overly physical and require insane strength. That's more like the kind of muscle structure you associate with Virgil and with age he's just become more and more defined, fiber-like.

Indeed.

Virgil has been heavily into Iyengar Yoga on/off for 35-40 years.

He’s also lifting weights and running as well as swimming. He feels strongly that combining all these things, as well as a super healthy diet, helps his stamina and endurance on the kit. Add to that a Herculean practice regimen for most of his life.

On the non-musical non-healthy side of things, you have to admire how independent the man really is and always has been. He has his own thing going and won't settle for any drumming trend (we all know about those) or marketing construct. He was totally ahead at recording video/audio material and still favors quality over quantity. That takes dedication and I, for one, I'm grateful for him setting the example.

A while ago I started working on the first PlanetX album (listed as a Derek S solo album), just to indulge 20-years-ago-me and find some motivation to study. A phrase that I never got around to achieve was from Atlantis Pt3, because I didn't hear a couple of groups of 6 that always threw me off (Atlantis Pt1 is just groups of 3, 5 and 7).
Anyway, here's the transcription to that part I made to visualize the whole thing. It's probably incorrect but that's the most comfortable way of counting for me. Thought I'd share. The part is like 2:00 min into the song.

PS: I worked on it using Yamaha's Rec'N'Share to slow it down and build up to the original tempo.
