Virg at the Spud Tomorrow night...$20 bones
Wow...Steve Hass tomorrow night
Thursday

Kiko Loureiro
Kiko Loureiro - Guitar
Anthony Crawford - Bass
Virgil Donati - Drums
http://www.thebakedpotato.com/Calendars ... ril16.htmlKiko's got some serious Latin chops...love this LP. Hoping his "Megadeath" fans don't clutter
the Spud and he sticks to the Latin Jazz thing...but some shredding is always a good thing
as well!

Just bought three tiks for the 9:30 show...any other HOD'ers going?
Will get there early...save seats...front row, one back. Never
bought online from site...pretty easy. Friend is bringing one of
the top guitarists from Armenia...will be a treat for him. Just
arrived in the States. Hope Kiko plays a lot of Latin stuff.
Nice little Crawford-Donati groove (Virg's snare POPS so hard on this one)

Hope you had a great time, Joe!
Here's clips from Virgil's Bass Experience show. What I really liked about this was how different a creative output each of these
young players are allowed to have in this context. Each their own approach, tone and artistry. All incredibly talented.

Weird gig...bass player could not get hooked up properly the first
few tunes so Kiko and Virg just jammed. Not much Latin fusion
until last few songs. Virg played a small kit...not his usual. Made
some vid but the sound got too distorted...guy at Spud was on the
No Video tour...had to go stealth mode. This was mostly bass n
drums...Kiko laid way back. 9:30 show was PACKED...never seen
it this packed outside of the post NAMM Jazz Ministry gig w/VC.
Always love the boyfriend who takes his girl...after song three
their should be a warning...this ain't a Journey gig! lol Lots of
kids tonight...pretty cool...the one cool dad brought his four kids
ages 10-17.
Anthony did a nice tribute to Prince...got the crowd singing out
to Purple Rain...again, very unusual night.

Now this should be interesting. I am yet to hear the final thing but have heard early versions of all of these.
I am confident in saying that no other world class drummer has these writing abilities.

Looking forward to the new album. In This Life has some amazing writing and performances on it. I play it at least once a month on the way to work in the car. The drums sound balls out amazing.

I summarize his thoughts this way...never capitulate intelligence!
Dude is deep, very intelligent, seeks cutting edge, scientific,
Olympian discipline, resilient and HUMBLE! A life very well lived...
I don't think he ever got married or has a family (kids) so it
has come at a cost. He pursues his inner voice.
