Recommended Music

Postby DSOP » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:21 am

I recently picked up three records that I'm really enjoying. I highly recommend checking them out:
* Pat Metheny - Unity Band
* James Muller - Kaboom
* Mike Stern - All Over The Place

Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe - Fish as funky as it gets...
Clifford Brown and Max Roach at Basin Street - Classic stuff.
Complete Atomic Basie - Sonny Payne! Enough said.
Live, Brad Mehldau Trio - It´s good, but didn´t touch deep inside yet...

Great topic! Will have to check out some of these recommendations.

I've had that record for years! It's definitely my favorite Fishbone outing (Unyielding Conditioning is my all time favorite Fishbone tune), but Truth and Soul is a close second.

I've been digging these recently:
Ahmad Jamal 'Blue Moon'- Herlin Riley on drums, great compositions
Tatum Hampton Rich- Some of my favorite Buddy stuff, a classic
Here Come the Mummies 'Undead Live'- Great band, hilarious double entendre lyrics, these guys are like my gym soundtrack
Kermit Driscoll 'Reveille'- It's been discussed in another topic here recently, genius Vinnie stuff imo
Brecker Brothers 'Some Skunk Funk'- Recent post of Weckl w/ the Brecker Brothers sent me out to buy this one with Erksine/Will Lee. Can't believe I didn't have it before.
'Dap Dippin with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings'- So hip. Love this band. Not a drumming tour de force but definitely great music.

Gary Clark Jr. plays one of the best guitar solos I've heard in ages:
