A bit of a divergence yes, but when someone covers a Police tune the central scrutinizer might appear which unalarming has.

Back to Machine Gun Smith...

Was kinda hard on him when he got back with Journey,
but his control and dynamics are spot on...so relaxed
and professional...Sonor's sound pretty huge. Guy keeps
himself in great condition as well. Just did not care
for his ride pattern on Who's Cryin' Now...loved the studio
recording of his touch and Deen used to pound the ride on this
ballad, so was looking forward to that groove...

LOL...I have ALWAYS wanted to see that Smith MI performance!
In 1991 a drummer who attended MI at the time when discussing
Smith said, "This drummer from Journey (insert tone of disrespect
for the band) performed and we wondered why he was here...then
he played and blew everyone away...THIS was the drummer for
Journey, the band that plays syrupy pop ballads!"
