I'd be interested in hearing about experiences from pro players who still take regular or occasional lessons. How and why do you pick your tutor? How frequently do you go to them? Who picks the material, and what is it? Do you go in with questions or just go in and see what happens? Any thoughts read with extreme interest.

Chris.

Hi,

I started taking a few lessons lately with a drummer a few of you might know because I've seen his clips being posted here, Max Sansalone. He's a very good drummer and I decided to go with him because I wanted to get my groove playing up a notch and I noticed in his videos on youtube that his groove were very strong. He seemed to be playing the kind of phrasing and articulation that I wanted to add to my own drumming. Up to now, we've been working on a couple of things he explains in his dvds, which are very good by the way. I try to come up with a few questions and we go from there. At that level, it is not very hard to get going since we both know a lot about music and drumming so from one question, we might go in a lot of direction which I enjoy. Hope this helps, ask me whatever questions you feel like.

Here's Max playing:

And here's myself (if you ever wondered where I was at):
