I can think of no advantage to this beyond marketing. What is interesting, is that having a top edge comprised of a flange destroys any claim of superiority intrinsic to the straight edge that has been a hallmark of these drums since the beginning. To me, that means this marketing effort is based upon either collective amnesia or hyperbole.

WOW...did not have Carter on my radar until now. Could not be more impressed
with this guy in every way. What I hear when he plays is musicality first.

The kit, great sound. The hats, beautiful. When I see a drummer
playing time and it comes alive, I don't have to think...it is just right. Felt this way
listening to that opening number. The last musical number as well.
He's so fluid and smooth. The fills (composition) fit, worked, flowed organically.
His feel playing time worked. His inner self is on target flowing outwardly.
He uses his technique wisely (musically) to me. For some reason I thought
briefly about Stanton Moore watching Carter perform.
