Some silly stuff

Postby Gavin Harrison » Mon Dec 13, 2010 8:43 am

These tends to reflect quite a lot of silly comments that I read on YouTube.

(by the way - I love Dave's swing playing).

I'll join you, Rodge--actually, I got to pick up a double pedal first! Gotta break the 200 BPM sound barrier for that uptempo jazz stuff!

Those videos are too funny. They need to do one about drummers in studio situations. You know, where the girl sings into the other end of the boom stand.

My experience at almost every rock club in LA has been the kick and snare are the only things ever in the mix. No toms, no cymbals.

Those video's are just too funny. So true too!!

Everyone knows, the secret to the fastest double bass isn't practice either, it's the most expensive pedals!!

The Mullet comment in the 2nd video just about killed me....

at least you get the snare!!!

I'm really considering bringing my own mixer/compression/gates/effects/mics to send to the FOH, that way I get what I want in my monitor. There'd be some stuff to work out, but in small clubs it would really help.

Do it! After I saw weckl (years ago) and talked to him about his drum sound, he told me having his own mics and dedicated mixer was the best thing ever. He would just send the board Left and Right basically.... so well, given he has insane drum sound. I had to do that too.

Best money ever spent. You might run into a few sound guys who balk about not controlling various things for the room, but my fix to that has always been "Just tell me what you want more of, and I'll give it to you." But it guarantee's my mix is at least a heck of a lot better then otherwise, and in some cases sound guys have been very thankful that they don't have to deal with mic'ing up my kit and so forth. That and I invested in drum mic's that are (in every case since) far better then the venue's.

I know a guy who also uses a similar set up but uses Whirlwind mic splitters so the FOH still gets control AND he gets what he wants in his in-ear.
