I think something's wrong with me. I turned it off when Smith started with the drum singing stuff. Oh well. =(

Today I was watching Steve´s dvd Standing on the shoulder of giants... The whole is dvd is basically he breaking dowm his performance on the MD festival.

Steve has serious chops, but to me the whole idea of playing bop or swing ideas/phrases in a "contemporary" drumset just doesn´t work... The whole perfomance was "interesting" at best. Not my cup of tea.
Riley was really the highlight of the whole thing.... He´s a fucking jazz encyclopedia. His comments were articulate, precise and intelligent. (btw, Riley´s The Master Drummer is GREAT!)

I really enjoyed this video, Smith bringing some of the Indian classical music tradition from tabla to drum kit has some really nice moments. Check out Trilok Gurtu though (with John McLaughlin at Festival Hall '89 - amazing album).

Same here :) I appreciate that Steve wanted to do something different.
