Anyone tried the Dave Weckl snares?

These are the new 30th anniversary drums. Very limited numbers available.

Just curious if anyone has played them or seen Dave playing them or tried the original Weckl snares from years ago. Did you like the double strainer? Anything good or bad to say about these drums?

I haven't tried them, but I'm sure they sound nice. I wouldn't buy one though, just because of those lugs. I'm not a fan. I would prefer high-tension lugs, or even tube lugs.

I have a 14" maple. I like it, no complaints.

I have the 13"x5" Maple. I bought it a long time ago, just when it came out.
It sounds really great, and I've used it in a lot of recording situations.
The sound is simply beautiful, and the tuning range is amazing.
I don't like to use the two snares at the same time, but I like the sound difference between the twos, and I always switch them to achieve immediately a different sound when I need.
One of the best snares that I have for sure.

The school I went to had the 13" snare. I got to use it a lot. It felt great to play. I liked having both snares on and use tension to get the feel and sound I wanted. I would have liked to try the 14 inch drum. It be nice if that drum came in a deeper size. Like a 6 or 6 1/2. As far as the price of 1000 goombas no freakin way. Better off getting something not as expensive and just as good quality. The two strainer came off gimmicky to me. It's a well crafted drum that's for sure. Yammy's are so fun to play. Great feel, tone and the best hardware in the entire universe.

We got a lot of calls after this last clinic tour where Dave used the new drums. People were flipping out over the drums (especially the brass 14") and we started taking orders the day after the first clinic. I haven't even seen one yet but we'll have them on display at NAMM. I think we have maybe ten of each left that are coming and we'll be sold out of our allotment.
