Anyone has any fav metal drummers? I feel this genre is somewhat underrepresented here, and there are some good ones out there. I understand that because of the audience composition there's a lot of that "mine's better" attitude involved, but metal's music too and there also certain things that do and don't work. And there are guys who make things work. My picks... (for now)
Brann Dailor of Mastodon
Tomas Haake
Travis Orbin - nobody can touch this guy. His cleanliness and execution are out of this world
Danny Carey - I love his heavy-handed approach combined with the intricacy of his ideas

I'm an old time metalhead.
These guys were nuts as hell.

I think Alex Rüdinger is getting close. If I'm not mistaken, he used to be a student of Travis'.
In any case there are a ton of similarities between the two.

And how does it sound compared to the other one? I thinks those "false" live vids mislead young guys learning the genre and the instrument (and don´t get me started on drum replacement, beat detective, autotune... ahahaha)

It sounds live.
It's like an uncanny valley, for drums.
You can just tell.

+1 Alex Rudinger. He's got a new album coming out that should crush.
Brutal Dave plays in a lot of good bands. His technique is effortless. I've been digging this guy a lot.
Lyle Cooper did soem amazing stuff with The Faceless
Gabe Seeber is an up and comer.

Jarzombek kicks this Travis Orbin's ass hands down. (sorry to comment ala Youtube style...)
He's so creative, and way more subtile than most of the other in that style of music, it's what I think anyway.

I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

I saw Jarzombek back in December with Fates Warning and he did a stellar job. I enjoyed that show surprisingly so.
