Would you say there's no metal elements in these acts? Virgil is quite universally labelled as playing progressive metal or fusion metal.
(Thankfully) He's not a blastbeater, but in many other aspects he is channelling metal elements.

Jim Richman knows his metal.

RIP Oderus. The show at Harpo's in Detroit I saw twenty years ago was the craziest shit I've ever seen.

The drummer was actually pretty good. The music had some complicated arrangements.

But what was really entertaining was the hot blonde on the side of the stage with her pants undone and her hand going to town like a turbocharged weed-wacker. Wild show.

He isn't saying any words...what a nut. Dude was awesome.

Will check it out, thanks! I also used to love both Gordian Knot's albums, featuring both Sean's :)

Re Virg, yeah he incorporates elements of metal, but I dont really think of him as a metal drummer proper. It's a bit like saying that Vinnie's metal because he recorded with Megadeth ;)

I thought it was funny labeling him a "metal" drummer. You know his capabilities, he is beyond any label, except drumgod. haha

I always have to promote my man Alfred:

He can kill al sorts of metal and do it creatively. Also wrote a great book on double bass. And got fined at NAMM for exceeding the noise level at the Axis demo. Can't get any more metal than that, right?
