I'll ask them specifically the difference next time I see the Dadarrio guys... I think that the Mylar they used at inception of the company Is not what they use now days. Remo is pretty overt with the labeling of Mylar on the description of their skins.. Evans isn't at all.. It's interesting that some of Remo's skins like the Controlled Sound don't have the Mylar labeling on their website like an ambassador does.. Maybe there's different Polyester used for different skin types.. I dunno...

In the end they are very different products Evans skins are softer.. Be it from a processing to the Mylar if that's what they use or their version of polyester is different from the start....

I try Evans every few years and find them to be "brittle" sounding to my ears. I actually liked their heads back in the 70s and 80s, but those were completely different from what they sell now. I don't think they should have used the Evans name after they did away with those flexible hoops.

Evans on drums are like playing with nylon tipped sticks.

I guess if you need max attack, like for metal, you could go that way. I find them too punchy and thin.

Those quotes sum up my experience with Evans.

Yeah, mostly attack and weird pingy upper frequencies. Missing that warm and projecting midrange.
