Simon has an interesting way of playing, he can hose fills, but then they come out right and still within the feel of the groove.
That's experience maybe, he's not playing to clicks, it's a bit Tonyish.
It's like he purposely rushes through fills to be able to build a little tension for the next section of music.
That's not metronomic time.
I think time is more fascinating than any other topic in drums, it's what the music is about, as important as the melodic and emotional component.
These are different yet still have that looseness and rubberiness, but still with a pulse in there.
