RIP. I took lessons from someone who knew him. Obviously dedicated his life to Afr Cuban drumming, that's deep respect.

Chuck was a pure passion of light, knowledge and humbling . I was privileged to teach/learn beside him for almost a decade. For the amount of info Chuck had in that mind of his, he constantly would inquire in whats being played by other styles, cultures, drummers. I'm honored to have known him and saddened that he left way too early.
Much love and respect, Sammy J Watson

This is wretched news. I attended a Slagwerkkrant drum camp in Belgium in the 90s (a great experience). Chuck was one of the teachers...really friendly guy and good drummer.

His video (VHS) "Afrocuban...for drumset" was one of the first instructional video I bought in my first years of playing.
RIP.

There's going to be an open memorial and all star jam in Hollywood this Wednesday. It's at MI, one of my co-workers told me some latin cats have been calling and might show. There was a jam for him at Mambo's Cafe in Glendale recently with Jimmy Branly and Luis Conte and even Alex Acuna showed. So hopefully they'll make it again.

Cheers
For Palito
