I noticed that he has the most supple and quick wrists I have ever heard. It is important to be able to groove on hat bass snare but he was so goddamn advanced. Silk Degrees is insane.
Bordeline demoralizing. No one will ever play like that, the environment was a propulsive force on these tunes he played on. Hard to watch anyone play those tunes. Simon is close. But he misses that "one more". Crazy.
Then I put Boulevard on with Marotta. Nearly lost my mind on those fills.
Ahhh...a man who thinks and feels like me. Couldn't have said it better...Jeff to Boulevard...something
I would do. Yes...that song is crazy...LOVE IT! So simple yet dense and tasty.
Life is funny at times...I get a text from a good friend in CA last night. He's at the Greek waiting for TOTO to go on.
Said it was crazy good. Asked for some video and will post if he comes through...wanted the less obvious hits
to post. Seeing TOTO w/Hungate would be special for me as well. I saw TOTO w/Jeff on maybe his last gig w/t
band at the Ventura Theater promoting the Past to Present LP. He was smooth as glass and clearly was in charge
w/o trying to be. Hard to explain, but his presence was so strong in that band...Luke was not the Luke I see
today when Jeff played...he took a step back to his "big brother Jeff" back then. Just my feel on that gig.
Sadly, the next time I saw Jeff was at his funeral at Forrest Lawn.
