I dont know much about Russ but to me this is a beautiful sounding kit and a pretty sweet organized solo....

I saw him in clinic when he was with Yamaha. Great player. JR and him both did clinics back to back! JR called him a young whippersnapper studio guy. lol

I hung out with JR for several hours that day. Good times.

That solo was very enjoyable! I never really knew the guy, but evidently he's a HELL of a player!

Having said that, personally I think that kit sounds horrible, the worst of which is the snare. No body/depth to the sound at all. I'm not slamming Mapex per se, as I remember watching good sounding and well tuned kits but this particular one sounds amazingly bad.

The kit sounds good, but the snare does kinda suck. The kick could use a little work. Toms sound great, though.
