It's all very subjective. I highly dislike his sound on 'Document'. It reminds me somewhat of a Roland Electronic kit.

Indeed, very close to a DW.... :D

I like the drum sound on Dovument. *shrug*

Also, for all that work Holdsworth put in, the bass drum sound always lacked oomph for me on Vinnie's kit on Secrets, and on "Against the Clock" on Wardencliffe Towers.

I like the drum sound on Document, great stuff !!!!
And I saw that band live in Germany, damn, the sound was huge !!! :o

I feel that too on "Against The Clock" Steve, not on "Secrets".
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

My last post was intended with a lot of sarcasm. I liked that sound as well, not to mention the crisp sound of his snare. But years ago a store had the Vinnie set set-up, tuned and I wasn't really impressed. Which could be caused by the room where it stood. The Thanks to Frank recording found its way to cd player in the car and the sound on that recording is so not DW :-)

Didn't care for that one at all. A lot of people did though.

I like very high/tight sounding drums without being in the bebop range. Meh.

I think my favorite Vinnie drum sound is the first self-titled Jing Chi record.

Vinnie did a record with Wishful Thinking back in the 90's and the drum sound was ass on ass bad. But his playing on that record was flat out amazing! his playing out shines drum sound.
