Yeah Sonny sounds like his balls are in a vise, wow, even I can hear he's not hitting the notes. He sounds a bit like Brian Johnson from ACDC.

The first tune is not easy, and his grooves are so in the music, and what he's playing on the hits, really tasty.

This guy is the best Jeff clone out there...plays with Bobby Kimball
and nails Jeff's style

another session laying around...great look at how these session cats hold
an artist in their hands and can make or break a career...that is trust!
just another session for them, but for her, it is her life! also how the "LA"
sound goes global...this was played in Japan and did well for her.

it ain't always sexy...one of many that came and went!

This guy is good. He also has the look vibe going. Those Paistes sound amazing.

I still think Shannon is the best Jeff clone. :)

A little Miles...

‘We cut the track and left the melody off – we just left open spaces. When Miles got there, we ran it down together with him and he wasn’t really playing the melody. So we figured, we’re not going to tell Miles Davis what to play, so we said, “Miles, we have a take of this, would you mind just giving it a listen and play whatever you want?”

He says, “Okay, I’ll play like that. You like that old shit, right?” So he gets out the Harmon mute and he played it – one take. We’re all stood there completely freaked out – it was unbelievable. At the end, the song just kind of fades out, but he just kept playing the blues. I was sitting there with chicken skin on my arms – it was an unbelievable moment.

And that’s how we ended the record, with just Miles blowing. Later on, David Sanborn came down to play on a different tune on the record and he’d heard that we had cut a tune with Miles. He said: “I gotta hear it!”, so we played it and he flipped and said, “Please just let me be on the track!” He doubled the melody and played a couple of flurries. So we got Sanborn, Miles and us on one track – that was pretty cool!’

Maybe a different part of Asia:

Pretty good actually, considering it's not their native tongue. After all, you never know who is watching right?

I have been wanting to tell this story for a LONG time!

Just found this interview and have not heard it since
it aired Live...

I was working at Dodger Stadium--parking lot for season
ticket holders. Sitting in my car, I was listening to Africa
off TOTO IV, thinking of Jeff's 16th note groove then flipped
on the radio--KLOS--and caught this interview. All of a sudden
I hear Jeff Porcaro talk about recording Africa! NO WAY...
I wanted to call my band buddies but no cell phones so I did
what everyone did back then...I held all the excitement
inside and waited!

(I have never heard the entire interview until now)

Only this was not a Dodger Game...it was Michael Jackson's
Thriller Tour! The good news is around the 7th inning of every
ballgame we could go inside and watch the rest of the game.

I looked at my buddy and thought, "Shoot...we can walk inside
dressed in the uniform we wear...they will never know!" After
the concert started, we waited and walked inside.

I went to the center of the stadium right under the control board.
Sugarfoot was laying down some serious pocket. Michael was in
full glory. This was amazing!!!

I am standing under the mixing board, diggin' life--MJ is starting
to groove to Beat It! I look to my left. I see this hot blond babe.
Then, I notice the guy next to her. NO WAY!

It was Jeff Porcaro with Susan! I am watching Sugarfoot play Beat It
and Jeff is watching as well! I kept staring at him...it was so
out of body...the guy on record is about 10 feet away at a Michael
Jackson concert while Beat It is being played! COME ON...

TOTO in the parking lot was pretty cool, but this was EPIC! One of
the great moments in life when it all comes together for some crazy reason!

Drummer gets bogged down keeping all the ghost notes on the snare. It took me a long time to really listen and figure out that Jeff's only ghosting the snare about 20% of the time on this tune, just to imply that feel. That's how he keeps it light and fluffy........
