The Tony Williams Thread

Postby Lucas Ives » Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:55 am

This is new to me: an almost 3 hour audio recording of a 1987 Tony Williams masterclass.

(!!)

I think Mr. Williams, or Sir Williams rather, deserves his own dedicated virtual space aka "The thread about Tony."

He is after all Vinnie's own "Vinnie."

Gonna put this on when I get home from rehearsals.

Tony Williams? Never heard of him.

This solo sums up a lot of why I love the drums.

Intense.

Guess I'll just add the clinic vid we've all probably seen a million times before.

Short clip of the master at 21. Great demonstration of Tony's shockingly well-developed ride cymbal technique, which would have been super-impressive at ANY age. Such a legend...

That ride cymbal in the black & white videos is insane
